From clothes to tackle, here's what you need to know.
What To Bring
Licenses are now available on line athttp//fwp.mt.gov/fishing/license. However your guide will happily take you to a convenient local fly shop to obtain any licensing on your first morning.
Montana weather is extremely unpredictable; please be prepared for all types of conditions. The temperature is commonly in the 30’s in the morning and 70’s and even 80’s in the afternoon. However some days the thermometer may never get past 40 degrees, and you wake up to an inch of snow. Long johns, warm socks, stocking cap, fleece or wool gloves, Gore-Tex rain coat, waders and boots could be useful and are recommended. Please bring backups to store onboard the drift boat incase of an unplanned dip in the river.
Mid June to Mid September
Breathable clothing such as zip off pants and fishing shirts
Texas or felt sandals
Raincoat and waders
Warm socks and gloves
Warm and cool weather clothes to avoid a chilly or wet situation
Layers to peel off throughout the day
Mid September through November
Usually by this time, weather conditions can be much cooler. Warm clothing will become necessary as we approach later fall, early winter.
However, Indian summers are possible. In these cases, layers to peel off throughout the day are an option.

Good strong mosquito repellent
Shorts and Sandals
If you don't have or don't care to bring fishing equipment, there are several local fly shops that rent equipment. If you plan to bring your own equipment, we suggest the following:
Tackle: 8.5-9ft 4wt -8.5-9ft 5wt These are acceptable rods, these are big fish.
8.5-9ft 6wt- 3x, 4x and 5x tippets and 9ft. leaders are most commonly used.
Floating lines are preferred, no need for a sink tip.
Waders & wader boots: Breathable waders are much more comfortable than anything else out there, please invest you will appreciate them.
Fly Box: We Encourage Barbless, Catch And Release Fishing.
